Remember how I love love love my classes this semester? Yeah.... I do :)
Today- like, 20 min. ago- I participated in a debate for my Family Life and Human Development class.
The Resolve: Embryonic Stem Cell Research should be outlawed.
My Position: Absolutely NOT! (con the resolve)
We rocked it! My teammates talked about the pluripotency of embryonic stem cells- that they have the ability to differentiate into many kinds of cells- and that the embryos come from IVF clinics that were going to discard the embryos anyway. My subtopic focused on the effects that outlawing embryonic stem cell research would have on our society; namely, we would fall behind in the race for medical discovery and scientific knowledge. The opponents (who we worked closely with) talked about the morality issue (where does life begin?), the benefits of doing adult stem cell research over embryonic research, and the risks that the treatments would present to both recipients and donors.
We were the first in the class to present and we set the bar really really high! I was really impressed with us, especially because we all wrote our speeches the day before :) It was epic! The class decided that the CON side (that's me!) won the debate!
I love the adrenaline that comes with public speaking! I know that I was shaky, and I know that there were sentences that weren't grammatically correct or logical, but I have a great speaking voice- I can project very well and I feel like I"m animated enough to keep people entertained! I have always been told that I am a good speaker, but I surprise myself every single time I speak :) It's good to feel talented- it's something that I don't feel often.
Thanks for reading!
