I feel like all my hard work has finally paid off! I've worked 3 shifts at this cute little deli- I've made some mistakes, but it's been fun so far! Our grand opening is Nov. 8th and I hope that more people will stop by and enjoy our food once we're "official."
Having a job is really really nice. I haven't worked a ton, but I really like the people I've worked with so far and I'm excited to go to work every time I have a shift, so that's good. We are a new business so everything isn't set yet. We don't have a routine or a set schedule or procedures about free food or anything. Basically, I wing it every day. It definitely fits my life right now!
I also chose a major (unofficially) this past month! I decided that I am going to study Communication with an Interpersonal emphasis. This degree is very versatile (in fact, I sort of made it up- SUU doesn't really offer it specifically) and it will open lots of opportunities for me. Right now I'm thinking that I will graduate from SUU in Fall 2013 (or possibly the following June), go on a mission for the LDS church (18 months), and then go to graduate school and get a degree in Counseling. Since graduate school has always been a requirement for me, it doesn't really matter how I get there. Communication is my favorite piece of counseling, so why not study what I love? I want to talk with people and help them realize their potential, strengthen their relationships, and talk through problems. I made a life-goal statement in NSLS that really sums it all up:
My life's purpose is to use my ability to get others involved, strengthen people's spirits, and help solve problems in order to help families discover their own potential and find self-confidence so they can reach their goals.
I know, it's intense, right? I know that my plans can change, but with this ultimate goal in mind I'm sure I will end up with a career that allows me to share my talents with others. That's what's up!
